We mourn the death recently of Nelson, an itinerant who camped out in front of the Metro grocery store near our offices here on Ste-Catherine East in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. Always ready to share a good word, always cheerful, Nelson, 62, was part of the neighborhood. Three years ago, we wrote about him in The Social Eyes: Click here to read the article.
He will be missed. Media reports say he died in the street, in the cold, « like a dog. » A pitiless end to eight years of homelessness for Nelson, who was rarely without the smile you seee in the picture here.
The tent city behind our offices, in the long thin park along Notre Dame East, is getting bigger every day.
