Dali the Rapper is No More

By Colin McGregor

At age 37, Dali Girard, rapper extraordinaire from the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region, has died. It happened last October, but it is still difficult to think that he will not be coming through the doors of the Café Graffiti ever again.

This bubbly, effervescent personality, driven by a love of hip-hop and techno music and culture (he was the guiding force behind Tranceparence Productions), was a fixture on stages in both Montreal and his home area. He was greatly admired in hip-hop, as can be seen if you search the web for reactions to his passing.

He first walked into the Café Graffiti at the age of 14. He went back to his home town, Alma, Quebec, to perform. Perhaps the region’s very first rapper!

Less than three weeks elapsed between his cancer diagnosis and his death. Before that he was actively organizing music reviews, including at the former Bistro Le Ste-Cath.

Reflet de Société is preparing a special edition on Dali, also known as DaliDalma, a play on words on his home town. The special edition, which also deals with grief as a subject, willl be out shortly.

Gone but not forgotten.
